Ezinihitte Crowned Champions of Maiden Mbaise Unity Cup 2026 After 3-1 Victory Over Agbaja
The Ezinihitte Clan Football Team has emerged champions of the maiden edition of the Mbaise Unity Cup 2026 after defeating Agbaja Clan 3-1 in a thrilling final played on Sunday at the Oke Ovoro Secondary School Field.
The competition, organized as part of activities marking the Iri-Ji Mbaise 2026 Cultural Festival, brought together teams from the five Mbaise clans in a celebration of football, unity, culture, and community development.
Ezinihitte delivered a great performance in the final, taking control of the match from the early stages and demonstrating why they were among the tournament’s strongest contenders.
The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Chiedozie Samuel opened the scoring for Ezinihitte, sending their supporters into jubilation. Ezinihitte continued to dominate possession and attacking play, and their efforts were rewarded again in the 39th minute when Chimezie Christian doubled the lead to give his side a 2-0 advantage heading into the halftime break.
Agbaja returned for the second half determined to fight back and reduced the deficit in the 72nd minute through Wisdom, who capitalized on a scoring opportunity to make it 2-1 and briefly revive his team’s hopes of a comeback.
However, Ezinihitte responded in emphatic fashion. Just four minutes later, Chiedozie Samuel struck again in the 76th minute to complete his brace and restore his side’s two-goal cushion, effectively putting the game beyond Agbaja’s reach.
The final whistle confirmed a historic 3-1 victory for Ezinihitte, making them the first-ever champions of the Mbaise Unity Cup.
The official presentation of the Mbaise Unity Cup trophy to Ezinihitte will take place on August 15, 2026, during the celebration of the Iri-Ji Mbaise Cultural Festival at Oke Ovoro Secondary School. The presentation is expected to be one of the major highlights of the festival as the victorious team will be formally honoured before traditional rulers, dignitaries, stakeholders, and thousands of sons and daughters of Mbaise expected to attend the cultural celebration.
The successful maiden edition of the Mbaise unity cup has been described as a platform that united the clans, showcased young talents, and strengthened the spirit of brotherhood among the people of Mbaise.
