Governor Uzodimma Begins Reconstruction of Long-Abandoned Hospital Road in Umuguma
UMUGUMA, IMO STATE — The Imo State Government has commenced the reconstruction of the Hospital Road in Umuguma, a critical access route that had remained in a deplorable condition for years despite serving thousands of residents and healthcare users in the area.
The project, which is being executed under the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma, is expected to improve connectivity, ease transportation challenges, and enhance access to healthcare services for residents of Umuguma and neighboring communities.
For many years, the road had been a source of concern to residents who lamented its deteriorating condition and the difficulties faced by motorists, patients, and healthcare workers accessing medical facilities along the corridor. The situation worsened during the rainy season, making movement increasingly difficult.
The commencement of reconstruction works has therefore been welcomed by residents, who described the intervention as a timely response to a long-standing infrastructural challenge. Many noted that the road had been neglected by previous administrations despite its strategic importance to healthcare delivery and economic activities in the area.
Observers say the project aligns with Governor Uzodimma’s ongoing drive to rehabilitate and reconstruct critical infrastructure across the state under the 3-R agenda of Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Recovery.
Residents expressed optimism that upon completion, the road would not only improve access to hospitals and other public facilities but also reduce travel time, enhance safety, and stimulate commercial activities within the community.
The reconstruction of the Hospital Road adds to a growing list of road projects being undertaken by the Imo State Government as part of efforts to modernize infrastructure and improve the quality of life of citizens across the state.
