China Rejects US Iran Sanctions, Says It Will Safeguard Its Rights and Interests
China has rejected the latest sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran, warning that Beijing will take necessary measures to protect its legitimate rights and interests.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said Beijing opposes what it described as “illegal unilateral sanctions” and urged the United States to stop using economic pressure to address international disputes.
The statement followed Washington’s announcement of fresh sanctions targeting individuals, companies and vessels linked to Iran as part of its broader campaign to put economic pressure on Tehran.
China has maintained significant economic ties with Iran, particularly through the purchase of Iranian oil. Beijing has repeatedly opposed US efforts to impose unilateral sanctions on countries and companies involved in trade with Tehran.
The latest development adds another layer of tension to already sensitive relations between Washington and Beijing, as the United States continues to pressure Iran while seeking international support for its sanctions policy.
China has argued that sanctions should not replace diplomacy and has called for disputes involving Iran to be resolved through negotiations and other diplomatic channels.
The Chinese government’s latest warning could also raise concerns about a potential confrontation if Washington expands its sanctions to target major Chinese companies or financial institutions doing business with Iran.
Beijing, however, has signalled that it will continue to defend what it considers its lawful economic interests while opposing measures it believes violate international norms.
