Wike Raises Alarm: ‘I’ll Be First Target’ If Tinubu Loses 2027 Election
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has revealed that he expects to become one of the first political targets if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is defeated in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike said he could face serious political consequences if either former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or Peter Obi emerges victorious in the election.
The former Rivers State governor, who remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has continued to openly support Tinubu, despite the president being a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during a media chat, Wike said he was fully conscious of the risks associated with the political position he had taken.
“I will be the first politician that I think they will come after. I will be the first politician. I know they will come for my head,” he said.
Wike, however, insisted that the possibility of facing political repercussions would not make him abandon his support for Tinubu.
According to him, securing Tinubu’s re-election has become his major political focus.
“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection,” Wike stated.
The minister also reacted to the criticism he has received over his political alignment, saying he has been subjected to intense attacks and name-calling.
Wike said he was not bothered by what his critics say about him, maintaining that his decision to support Tinubu remains unchanged.
“I don’t see where anybody in this country today has been called names the way my name has been. I am not bothered about people who say their [own] thing. My business is, like I said, I am going to support Mr President,” he said.
Wike’s position has continued to generate controversy within the PDP, particularly as political alignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election take shape.
With Tinubu seeking another term and Atiku and Obi among the major opposition figures positioning themselves for the presidency, Wike’s decision to back the incumbent could remain a major talking point as the 2027 race gathers momentum.
