INEC Releases 2027 Governorship Candidates’ Names, Campaigns Set To Begin

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the names and details of candidates who will contest the 2027 governorship elections across Nigeria.

The list, contained in Form EC9, was made public on Saturday, August 29, 2026, bringing more clarity to the growing political contest ahead of the 2027 elections.

The publication includes the names of governorship candidates and their running mates, alongside details such as their ages, educational qualifications and other required information.

The major political parties represented on the list include the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nigeria Democratic Congress and Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

With the publication of the candidates’ details, political parties are now moving into another important phase of the electoral process.

Campaign activities for the governorship and State House of Assembly elections are expected to officially commence in September 2026 and continue until February 4, 2027.

The release of the candidates’ particulars is expected to further increase political activities across the states as parties begin to mobilise supporters and present their programmes to voters.

The 2027 governorship elections will be held after the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for January 2027.

INEC’s publication also gives voters an opportunity to know the candidates who will be seeking their votes and examine their qualifications ahead of the elections.
